On the Belizean flag the blue represents the Peoples United Party’s flag proposal before independence. The red stripes represent all parties because the government wanted all parties represented. To represent the people of Belize the government had people put in proposals and the current flag is a combination of peoples proposals. The white circle is the coat of arms. On the shield there are the tools of the belizean logging industry and a ship with full sails. The full sails represents that they are moving forward. The two people are wood cutters. They are black and white to symbolize diversity. There is a mahogany tree in the background because in the 18th and 19th century mahogany harvesting was the basis of their economy. There is a wreath of Mahogany leaves surrounding the coat of arms as another representation of the logging industry. The motto Sub Umbra Floreo means Under the Shade we Flourish. It says this because the mahogany tree is how Belize made their money and mahogany harvesting was the basis of their economy.
